Do peolpe really want to be spoon fed? Listening to a Christian radio station today, the host was interviewing a popular Bible teacher. They were discussing how people today wanted quick fixes and short cuts. They talked about the sad state of affairs in the Christian world, people wanting to be spoon fed not willing to learn how to feed themselves. Of course this hit a nerve with me, as horse people are looking for the same thing. At first, I agreed with them, people are just lazy. They are always looking for shortcuts, trying to cheat their way to good horsemanship. But then I started thinking about all the people I know who are dedicated, striving to find the truth about horses and always coming up empty. After some critical thought, I realized that yes there are those who want to cheat and be lazy. Nothing you can do about that, but you can do something about those who are truly looking. What? Give them the truth in such a way that they can use it. Could it be that those who the "common" folk look to for guidance and hope have actually kept them in the dark? Not giving them the tools to sustain adequate growth in their endeavors. But, instead, have cultivate a co-dependency that keeps bringing them back for another quick fix? I think yes.
